Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism: Thank you for coming down here to the magnificent New Sydney Fish Market. I'm here with my very good friend, Minister Anoulack, the New South Wales Trade Minister, but also Craig and Tony from the market here. We're here today firstly to visit this magnificent premises, but also to promote fresh Australian seafood to the world. As you know, we recently negotiated eight years, a new free trade agreement with the Europeans. Of the $1.5 billion worth of seafood that Australia exports, only $7 million of that product went to Europe. Now, under this new free trade agreement, the exports which currently face, for instance, if you are looking for crayfish, crayfish attracts a 23% tariff. From day one of this new agreement, Australian tariffs on European products are removed, and all of our product goes into Europe, tariff free. So, there's an opportunity to significantly increase the amount of Australian seafood that goes into Rome, into Paris, into Berlin, and into Madrid. Now, as you know, last week, Senator Canavan indicated that the National Party is opposed to this free trade agreement. What we're calling on today is the Liberal Party to reject the proposition that we should oppose this free trade agreement. As I said, worth $10 billion from the start of the agreement, very quickly rising to $30 billion. This is a really good agreement for Australia. It's an opportunity to work with all of those countries around the world that also believe in free and fair trade. And we need the Liberal Party to make a decision based on the national interests of Australia that we make agreements with friends around the world. There are 450 million European consumers. It's an economy of $33 trillion. We need to support this agreement and Mr Taylor needs to come out and make it very clear that what he said in his maiden speech, that he supports free and fair trade, that he comes on board, he rejects the push by the National Party to keep those tariffs. We get one opportunity at this. We get one opportunity to reach an agreement with the Europeans. This is it. It's been eight years of negotiations, lots of failed attempts. We now have succeeded. And now is the opportunity for the Liberal Party to step up and say, look, we're going to back Australian business. We're going to back Australian seafood producers. All of the hard-working people in this industry, pick it up very early in the morning, catch all of this wonderful fresh food for Australia. We want you to back that industry. We want Australian prosperity to increase because the more we export, the more prosperity for Australian businesses and for Australian workers. So, thank you for coming along today, and I'll now hand over to my very good friend, Minister Anoulack, the New South Wales Trade Minister.
Anoulack Chanthivong, minister for Industry and Trade, New South Wales: Thank you very much Don. I'm really delighted to be here with you and also at the Sydney Fish Market. New South Wales in Australia has some of the freshest, most premium, most trusted and respected seafood anywhere in the world and the agreement that Don and the Commonwealth have been able to sign with the EU-FTA Agreement represents for us, as Australians and in New South Wales, a wonderful opportunity to export our fresh seafood products to our friends in Europe. More jobs, more opportunities, more greater economic growth for Australia and for New South Wales. This is an opportunity that shouldn't be missed, and we should all be thanking our fishing, our agriculture industry to ensure that we bring the economic opportunities, good income and a strong economy for the future. The Minns Labor Government supports our seafood industry, and investment in the fish market tells exactly why we support it. Great industry, highly respected, premium products, trusted, we can really showcase our seafood to the world and bring more income, better wages and a stronger economy for New South Wales and for Australia.
Tony Muollo, General Manager, Pyrmont Seafood: As a seafood exporter, I welcome this news. It opens doors for alternate markets for my products.
Craig Davison, Chair, Sydney Fish Market: I'd just like to say thank you for supporting the seafood industry. It's great to see this opportunity open up. We look forward to supporting it.
