"The 20th anniversary of the Leadership Dialogue is evidence of the vibrant and diverse links between our peoples, and of the commitment of both nations to maintaining our historic friendship," Dr Emerson said.

"The Dialogue brings together pre-eminent thinkers on the Australia-US relationship and is a welcome opportunity to explore new avenues of bilateral and global cooperation and to advance our economic and trade interests."

While in Washington, Dr Emerson will also meet senior Congressional figures to discuss trade liberalisation priorities.
