Minister for Trade Simon Crean to hold trade policy talks in Washington

The Minister for Trade, Simon Crean, will today leave for the United States for trade policy talks in Washington.

Mr Crean will meet with the US Trade Representative Susan Schwab to discuss preparations for the World Trade Organisation ministerial meeting to be held in Geneva later this month.

The Minister will also attend a roundtable dialogue on the international response to the global financial crisis.

The event is being organised by the Centre for American Progress.

This dialogue will give Mr Crean an opportunity to hold detailed discussions with key trade policy figures - including those associated with the incoming Obama Administration.

Mr Crean will also hold bilateral meetings with other trade ministers participating in the dialogue - including European Union Trade Commissioner Catherine Ashton.
