Truss to Indonesia for 7th Trade Ministers’ Meeting

Australian Government Minister for Trade, Warren Truss, will visit Jakarta from 24 to 26 June to take part in the 7th Trade Ministers’ Meeting with his Indonesian counterpart, Dr Mari Pangestu.

Mr Truss said the annual Trade Ministers’ Meeting was established in August 2000 to cement closer commercial links between the two countries, with the last meeting taking place in Canberra in August 2006.

“Discussions will focus on reviewing the implementation of the bilateral Trade and Investment Framework (TIF), initiated by former Australian Government Minister for Trade, Mark Vaile and Dr Pangestu in 2005,” Mr Truss said.

“I will also hold meetings with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr Boediono, Minister for Finance, Dr Sri Mulyani Indrawati, State Minister for State‑Owned Enterprises, Dr Sofyan Djalil, and Minister for Agriculture, Dr Ir Anton Apriyantono,” he said.

A delegation of leading Australian business representatives will also travel to Indonesia. The business delegation will take part in the TIF Policy Dialogue and Experts Group, held in conjunction with the trade talks, and meet key Indonesian ministers.

The Policy Dialogue, a key feature of the TIF, brings business and policy leaders together to identify ways to increase commercial activity in priority sectors. The Experts Group, which convened in May 2007, will advise Mr Truss and Dr Pangestu on ways to strengthen the bilateral trade and investment relationship.
