Truss announces re-appointment of Austrade CEO
Australian Government Minister for Trade, Warren Truss, today announced the re-appointment of Peter O’Byrne as CEO of the Australian Trade Commission, Austrade.
Mr Truss said Mr O’Byrne will continue to lead Austrade for another two years. Austrade is a statutory agency within the Foreign Affairs and Trade Portfolio.
“Austrade provides advice, market intelligence and support to help Australian companies succeed in export and international business,” Mr Truss said.
“The agency operates in Australian and in more than 140 overseas locations in over 60 countries. Mr O’Byrne will continue to report directly to me,” he said.
Peter O’Byrne was appointed Managing Director of Austrade in 2002. He has experience in both public and private sector businesses. He is a board member of the Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, National Food Industry Strategy Council and a member of the Trade Policy Advisory Council, Council for Australian-Arab Relations and Council on Australia Latin America Relations.
Austrade helps Australian companies to reduce the time, cost and risk involved in selecting, entering and developing international markets. In addition, Austrade provides advice and guidance on overseas investment and joint venture opportunities. It administers the Export Market Development Grant scheme and the TradeStart network. Austrade’s overseas network also provides consular services in 23 locations around the world.
