Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum

On behalf of the Australian Government, I extend sincere condolences to the people of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai and the Al-Maktoum family on the death of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, on 4 January.

Sheikh Maktoum was highly respected and admired as a man of vision and generosity who sought to advance the well-being of his people. The impressive social and economic development of the United Arab Emirates and Dubai is testimony to his vision.

Australia pays particular tribute to the contribution which Sheikh Maktoum made to the relationship between our two nations. Australia and the United Arab Emirates enjoy a warm and growing relationship, with significant trade and people-to-people exchanges. A Free Trade Agreement is currently being negotiated which will further expand the linkages between our two nations.
