US Lifts Suspension on AWB
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Mark Vaile today welcomed the decision by the US Government to lift the suspension on the AWB (US) Ltd from participating in US export credit programs.
Mr Vaile said that the US Department of Agriculture had agreed to lift the suspension pending the outcome of the Cole inquiry that was recently announced by the Attorney General, Mr Ruddock.
"We welcome this announcement," Mr Vaile said
"The Australian Government has announced a judicial inquiry on this matter and it is common sense to let that process run its course."
"I have noted comments by the Grains Council of Australia that they are concerned that ongoing comments from the Opposition and some sections of the media could damage the very good reputation of Australia's wheat growers.
"It's important that we consider this perspective and not play political games with people's livelihoods," Mr Vaile said.
