Information Technology Requirements – Consular Services

The Australian Government will ensure Australians have the best possible access to support when travelling overseas by bolstering support for Austrade offices that deliver consular services overseas.

The Government has decided to provide for the delivery of an information technology system to link consular and passport services in Austrade offices with information systems managed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). This measure will be fully funded through the reallocation of existing Austrade resources.

Austrade delivers consular and passport services for the Government in 22 overseas locations. To deliver these services effectively, efficiently and securely, access to key information systems held by DFAT in Canberra needs to be made available at Austrade’s posts.

In addition to the efficiency gains from having ready access to information systems, posts need access to information in real time for emergencies or sensitive cases. This means that Australians will in turn receive assistance in the shortest time possible.
