Vaile Launches 2004 Australian Export Awards

Trade Minister Mark Vaile today encouraged Australian exporters of all sizes to enter the 2004 Australian Export Awards at the official launch in Melbourne.

Mr Vaile said the Australian Export Awards were recognised as one of the longest running and most prestigious business awards in Australia.

“The Australian Export Awards recognise excellence in exporting and promote the sector’s highest achievers as role models for the business community in Australia,” Mr Vaile said.

“For the past four decades the awards have honoured Australian companies who have excelled in competitive global markets. Award winners span all industries and are located right across our nation.

“Last year’s DHL Australian Exporter of the Year, QBE Insurance, is a great example of an Australian company that managed to achieve outstanding results despite difficult economic conditions. Another 2003 winner was Western Australia company Mt Romance, who caught the interest of international perfume houses and introduced a new industry to an isolated regional township.

“The 2004 awards are looking for the next wave of Australian companies who are leaders in their fields and who have achieved outstanding success on the international stage.”

Mr Vaile said international trade provided many benefits to Australia, including economic growth, higher living standards, better employment conditions and business innovation.

“Exports account for nearly a quarter of Australia’s income and more than one in five Australian jobs - one in four in regional Australia. These awards help raise the profile of Australian business capability and pave the way for other local companies to trade internationally,” Mr Vaile said.

The Australian Export Awards recognise achievers in eleven industry categories and two special award categories, The Special Achievement Award, and the DHL Australian Exporter of the Year.

To enter the Australian Export Awards, companies must first enter awards in their relevant state event. State winners then become finalists in the national awards to be held in December 2004. For more information see Austrade or Charlton
