74 Australian Companies Join 40 Years of Great Australian Exporters
The Hon Mark Vaile MP, Minister for Trade, has congratulated finalists nominated for the 40th Australian Export Awards announced at Parliament House Canberra today.
74 Australian companies were announced as finalists. Businesses from every state and territory, large and emerging, metropolitan and regional, have been recognised as export leaders in industry categories from manufacturing to mining, agribusiness to the arts, tourism and education.
“40 years of Austrade’s Export Awards Program has shown that Australian exporters punch well above their weight in achieving continued success on the international stage, despite periodic global downturns and fluctuations,”Mr Vaile said.
“This year’s national finalists are to be congratulated for their commitment to export markets and their tenacious approach in the face of 12 months of global economic uncertainty.”
The 74 finalists include large companies such as Toyota Motor Corporation Australia ranging through to finalists in the Emerging Exporter of the Year award category such as Moonrocks Australia, a Queensland company exporting varieties of melon.
“Australians are very good at identifying a niche market and becoming the best supplier to that market internationally,”Mr Vaile said.
“It’s long been said that Australia is a country of enthusiastic entrepreneurs willing to take risks but when you see the exponential growth of emerging exporters who manage to survive through the hard times of an ailing world economy, it’s clear that good management and strategic thinking are more at play than just enthusiasm and good luck.”
Presented by Austrade and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the Australian Export Awards are acknowledged as Australia’s most prestigious industry awards for excellence in exporting.
Winners of the Australian Export Awards will be announced by Minister Vaile at a gala event in Sydney on 12 November 2003.
