AWB Secures Wheat Deals with Jordan and Libya
Australia had secured two new wheat markets in the Middle East and
North Africa, Trade Minister Mark Vaile announced to Federal Parliament
today.
Mr Vaile said he had been advised Australia's bulk wheat exporter
AWB Ltd had recently secured markets for Australian wheat in Jordan
and Libya.
"The Australian Wheat Board has secured an order for 50,000 tonnes
to Jordan, the first order since 1996," Mr Vaile said.
"Following our successful trade delegation that I led to Libya, which
included the Australian Wheat Board Chairman, the wheat board has
also secured an order for 50,000 tonnes."
"Those two new orders are worth roughly $A25 million dollars.
"These announcements vindicate the Government's support of the AWB
to successfully manage their commercial dealings.
Mr Vaile said these deals are yet another example of why the Federal
Government is a committed supporter of the single desk for bulk wheat
exports, which gives branding and marketing advantages to Australian
wheat farmers.
"Through the single desk the AWB exports to some 55 countries enabling
them to strategically place Australian wheat around the world.
"The Federal Government is confident the AWB is well equipped to
maximise export revenue for the Australian wheat grower."
