Trade Minister, Mark Vaile, today urged Australian companies to look at emerging e-commerce business opportunities in Japan. In Tokyo for bilateral trade talks, Mr Vaile said Austrade would sponsor a session on electronic commerce in Japan at the joint meeting of the Australia-Japan and Japan-Australia Business Co-operation Committees (AJBCC/JABCC) later this month. "Two Australian electronic commerce providers - Spike and Huon Solutions - will participate in a session on electronic commerce developments at the joint meeting of the AJBCC/JABCC in Kobe at the end this month," Mr Vaile said. "These companies will be then joined by other Australian providers at additional seminars that Austrade will hold in Osaka and Tokyo on October 25 and 27. "Japan is developing as a highly prospective market for Australian companies with capabilities in areas of electronic commerce such as banking and finance, internet and supply chain management," Mr Vaile said. "Though lagging behind the United States and Australia in use of business-to-business electronic commerce, Japan's usage rate is rapidly increasing and there is a growing need for electronic commerce solutions."
