SOUTH AUSTRALIA SIGNS ON TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S 'INVENTIVE AUSTRALIA' CAMPAIGN

The Minister for Trade, Senator Bob McMullan, today welcomed the decision by the South Australian Government to work with the Federal Government's Inventive Australia campaign in joint promotions in key East Asian markets.

Announced by Senator McMullan and the SA Minister for Industry, John Olsen, the agreement will see South Australian achievements in innovation and high technology strongly promoted in East Asia under the Inventive Australia - Creative Adelaide banner.

Speaking at the meeting of APEC Ministers responsible for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Adelaide, Senator McMullan said the agreement is a good example of the Team Australia approach (Federal and State/Territory governments, business and unions working together) to lift Australia's trade performance.

"While the team approach has been at the core of the Inventive Australia campaign from the start, this agreement with South Australia is the first formal arrangement between the Federal and State governments on joint promotion through the campaign," Senator McMullan said.

"The fine detail of the arrangement is being developed by the Market Australia Unit of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the South Australian Economic Development Authority."

The agreement will see South Australian achievements promoted by Inventive Australia through advertising, public relations, media and industry visits, and seminars in the key markets of Indonesia, Thailand, Shanghai and Korea.

The objective of the two-year $16 million Inventive Australia campaign is to improve Australia's image in Asia as a supplier of high-value-added goods and services to complement our favourable image in the region for agriculture, mining and tourism.
