There’s no business like showing business: Short film competition launched today
Media release
2 March 2010
Parliamentary Secretary for Trade, Anthony Byrne announced the launch today of a short film competition to showcase the world of international business opportunities at the Victoria University, Footscray.
"The inaugural Austrade 2010 Short Film Competition encourages aspiring young film producers to produce entertaining, and informative films highlighting the opportunities, processes and issues for Australians pursuing international business," said Mr Byrne.
"The competition is targeting participation by tertiary students Australia-wide who are studying courses such as film production or international business.
"The world of international business is a dynamic one and we are sure the students will come up with innovative, imaginative, and diverse views on this theme.
"They will have free reign with the genre, it can be narrative or non narrative and in any style ranging from drama documentary, animation to corporate.
"We want the entrants to produce legitimate business content and will encourage them to link up with university post graduates or teachers of international business to assist in producing a quality piece of work."
Films in 2010 should focus on one of the following aspects of trade and investment:
- Cross cultural communication skills required for a specific market or region
- Product adaptation to market taste, laws or culture for a specific market or region
- Market entry using an investment strategy, such as joint venture, merger or acquisition
- Managing staff in off-shore locations
- Corporate and social responsibility in business.
The winning entry will receive $2,000 and access to key film professionals. The state or territory winners will receive
$500 each. In addition to the prize, short-listed films will receive national exposure as their films will be streamed from the Austrade website and provided to university lecturers and export advisers in a DVD publication.
The judging panel will consist of one Austrade representative, an academic and an industry representative.
The competition closes on the 29th May 2010. Winners will be announced in mid June 2010.
