New report reveals emerging opportunities for resources trade in Mongolia
The Parliamentary Secretary for Trade the Hon. Anthony Byrne MP today welcomed the launch of a new report outlining opportunities for the Australian resources sector in Mongolia.
Mr Byrne said “The Mongolian Mining Projects Report 2009”, published by Austrade, offers Australian mining sector companies the opportunity to better understand and connect with emerging opportunities in resource-rich Mongolia.
The report will be launched to coincide with the visit of a high-level mining delegation to Sydney, Canberra, and the Hunter Valley including members of the Mongolian parliament, World Bank, and Mongolian mining industry stakeholders.
“Both countries share vast natural wealth. Australia, as the most efficient mining nation in the world can assist Mongolia to maximise their resources potential through increased cost-efficiency, safety and mine yields.
“The report profiles the Mongolian mining sector and provides information on 17 current and future mining projects.
“Australia’s world-leading record in mine safety technologies and mining related software can also play a role in Mongolia’s rapidly emerging mining sector,” Mr Byrne said.
Rich deposits of copper, gold, coal and uranium, are just a few minerals currently mined in Mongolia. Companies such as Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and Leighton Holdings have been active in the market for several years.
Australian mining companies have significant mineral leases in Mongolia, and Australian geological, drilling, mining software and environmental management companies are also winning business.
“A number of major copper and coal projects are also being considered by the Mongolian Parliament, and if approved, could result in significant new opportunities for Australian companies,” Mr Byrne said.
“This year, for the first time, Austrade placed a business manager in Ulaanbaatar on a trial basis as a first step to further enhancing opportunities for the Australian resources sector, as well as sectors such as agribusiness and education,” Mr Byrne said.
The “Mongolian Mining Projects Report 2009” is produced for Australian mining equipment, services and technology exporters and is available by contacting Austrade 13 28 78.
